Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning…”

Not working within the laws of nature but creating the laws of nature

Those laws may not have been the same during the first six days.

Day 1: Light before sun

Genesis 1:3 “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.”

Revelation 21:23 “And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.”

Day 3: Gathered together

Genesis 1:9 “And God said, ‘Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.’ And it was so.”

Gathered – same base as synagogue like ekklēsia – not a religious word, not an institution

Genesis 1:11 “And God said, "Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed…”

Plants need CO2, it is not a toxin.

Millions of years of plants only, they would run out of CO2 and die.

Genesis 1:12 “The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds…”

Day 4: Creation of the sun and moon

Genesis 1:14 “And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night…”

Genesis 1:18 “…to rule over the day and over the night…”

Rule or govern: to rule, have dominion, reign – not to create or define

Debate on Yom or day

Day 5: Fish and birds

Genesis 1:21: ESV “great sea creatures”, NASB “great sea monsters”, KJV “great whales”

No indication starting from a single fish or bird

Day 6: Beast

Genesis 1:25 “And God made the beasts of the earth…”

No indication start from a single animal

Only now the balance for sustained life on earth as plants feed animals and animals, through air and waste feed plants.

Day 6: Man

Gen 1:27 “So God created man in his own image…”

Genesis 2:7 “…and the man became a living creature (ESV) being (NASB) soul (KJV).

Man is distinguished between animals and a separate creation.

Genesis 1:28 “And God blessed them. And God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth…”

Genesis 2:7 “then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.”

A single man created from dust.

Woman created from man.

First command given and repeated (Gen 9:1, 9:7)

Contrast to Noah

Only pairs of animals, 1 or 7.

Creation may have been many at once, restart was from pairs. Cannot be read back into creation account.

No impact on fish or sea creatures.

Plants restart in abundance.

Odds of life

Modern science gives us tools to see farther and clearer into space.

The idea of seeing a planet with a few characteristics that are similar to earth gives rise to the proclamation that others planets may have life.

The odds of any planet with spontaneous life, including the earth, is essentially zero.

The odds of life anywhere in this massive universe is essentially zero. It takes an act of God.
