For some years I have engaged both black and white people, sometimes at the same time, to know how much tension actually exists here in our mid-size city. The general agreement seems to be that the tension is a big city issue, but not one locally. Considering current events and that there are multiple Russian churches here in Cleveland, I wanted to know if they are seeing any tension. Since I walk by one frequently when I go to the grocery store, on Sunday afternoon I simply walked in, see Acts 17:2. It ended up with a delightful dialog and an invitation to engage further with the pastor on Wednesday evening. There is a potential issue in that he speaks Russian and little English. What a joy to be willing to engage. Also, it does appear there is little tension with the Russian community here, and some of the people there were also Ukrainian. |
